The Jones Family: The Zoo & State Fair

Our niece Mia had her 7th birthday party at the Fort Worth Zoo last weekend. This was Landon's third trip to the zoo & each time he seems to have more fun! For the party they brought a few animals in for the kids to see close up...a couple of owls, an alligator & a penguin who ran right into the room! I don't think Landon knew what to think about the animals being so close & indoors! There was also a stuffed lion in the hallway of the education center (where the party was held) and Landon had to do plenty of 'ROARs' to it before we could leave. When we walked around the zoo afterwards he had a great time pointing at all of the animals & making the animal sounds. I think his favorite part of the day was riding the zoo train. We rode round-trip & he kept saying "Choo Choo! Choo Choo!" He'd get so excited waiting at the little train depot as the train came into view. It was an action-packed day & Landon was fast sleep about 5 minutes after we got back in the car to head home.

I took yesterday off & we went to the State Fair of Texas. Darren & Landon had never been before. We had a lot of fun taking in all the sites & sounds of the midway & the different exhibits. Landon was amazed by hearing Big Tex talk. He waved & said "Bye Big Tex!" when we walked away. We went into a children's aquarium where they had an albino alligator & a huge 75 year old turtle. He wasn't interested in touching any of the hermit crabs or other weird sea creatures they had out, but he loved the children's barnyard. We saw a huge sow with several little piglets, goats, cows, ostriches, baby zebras, camels & a giraffe, just to name a few. Landon had a lot of fun petting the different animals & got a big kick out of the big camel eating out of a plastic shovel right beside him. He also got his first taste of funnel cake (mommy's favorite) & was an instant fan. Such a fun day!
